Tommy Hawkins v Kushida Hayabusa 04/03/25

Tommy Hawkins Battles Kushida in a High-Stakes Showdown on IWRA Storm

On Monday night, IWRA Storm delivered another action-packed episode, headlined by a thrilling contest between Tommy Hawkins and Kushida. With both men boasting impressive championship credentials, this battle was a proving ground for Hawkins as he sought to solidify his place on Storm and inch closer to a showdown with Jim Braddock for the Storm Men’s Championship. For Kushida, this was an opportunity to reclaim his momentum after losing the title in controversial fashion. What followed was an electrifying contest that had the IWRA faithful on the edge of their seats.

Kushida Controls the Early Rounds

As the opening bell rang, Kushida took immediate control, using his speed and technical prowess to keep Hawkins grounded. A master of pacing, the former champion expertly dictated the tempo, cutting off Hawkins’ attempts to build momentum. Hawkins, known for his high-flying offense, found himself unable to string together any significant offense as Kushida’s calculated strikes and relentless mat work kept him firmly in control. Each time Hawkins tried to break free, Kushida was one step ahead, frustrating the former Forge Men’s Champion.

Hawkins Turns the Tide

Despite Kushida’s early dominance, Hawkins found an opening when he countered a submission attempt and locked Kushida into a hold of his own, shifting the balance of the match. With the tides turning, Hawkins unleashed his signature aerial offense, landing a breathtaking series of moonsaults and shooting star presses. The momentum swung completely when he connected with a slingblade, finally putting the former Storm Champion on the defensive and rallying the crowd in his favor.

High-Flying Spectacle on the Outside

Sensing his moment, Hawkins pressed his advantage. A powerful dropkick sent Kushida tumbling out of the ring, and the crowd roared as Hawkins ascended the top rope. In a spectacular display of agility, he soared through the air with a springboard moonsault, crashing onto Kushida at ringside. The impact left both men dazed, but it was Hawkins who recovered first, feeding off the energy of the crowd as he rolled Kushida back into the ring.

Kushida Strikes Back

Just when it looked like Hawkins had the match in hand, his confidence got the better of him. A momentary lapse allowed Kushida to counter his attempted finisher, flooring Hawkins with a thunderous knee strike—the devastating “Ichi Ni San.” The referee dropped for the count—1…2… but Hawkins somehow kicked out at the last second, showcasing his resilience. Kushida, sensing the match slipping away, prepared to deliver the final blow.

Hawkins Delivers the Knockout

As Kushida moved in, Hawkins dug deep. He countered an incoming attack and drove Kushida’s head into the turnbuckle, opening a cut above his opponent’s eye. Smelling blood, Hawkins seized the moment, executing his “Fly-By” before hitting his signature “Crash Landing.” The referee’s hand hit the mat three times, sealing a hard-fought victory for Tommy Hawkins.

Braddock Sends a Message

Kushida, ever the sportsman, acknowledged Hawkins’ victory with a nod of respect. However, Hawkins’ celebration was short-lived as Jim Braddock emerged at the top of the ramp, his Storm Men’s Championship slung over his shoulder. With a smirk, Braddock raised the belt high, mocking Hawkins and sending a clear message—Tommy may have won this battle, but if he wants the gold, he’ll have to overcome the mind games and underhanded tactics of his longtime rival.

The road to the IWRA Storm Men’s Championship just got even more treacherous for Tommy Hawkins, and with Braddock watching, the war is only beginning.
